Peter Stern joins Peloton with extensive background in subscription businessEnglish

Peloton named Apple Fitness+ co-founder Peter Stern as its new president and CEO. The announcement came after Peloton’s first-quarter 2025 earnings topped Wall Street expectations and sent PTON shares higher.

Stern currently serves as president of Ford Integrated Services and has held leadership roles at Apple and Time Warner Cable. He will assume his new role at the connected fitness giant on January 1, 2025. Peloton is expected to appoint Stern to its board of directors.

He succeeds interim co-CEO and co-president Karen Boone and Chris Bruzzo, who following the exit of former CEO Barry McCarthy in May Take over.

“Peter is a seasoned strategist with a track record of driving sustainable growth through innovation, and we are confident in his ability to lead Peloton during this important time,” Peloton Chairman of the Board Jay Hoag said in a statement. “He brings meaningful expertise in scaling a differentiated, technology-led platform and a deep understanding of the health and wellness space – making him a perfect fit as Peloton’s next CEO.”

Hogg added that Stern, who holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, embodies the connected fitness company’s core values.

Hoag continued, “We hope the entire Peloton community shares our excitement and look forward to working with Peter to lead Peloton into the future and unlock long-term value for all stakeholders.”

Boone will now serve as sole interim CEO and president until the end of the year. Bruzzo will step down as interim co-CEO and president on November 1. Both men will remain members of Peloton’s board of directors.

Peloton noted that Stern has been a member of its fitness community since 2016, is an “early adopter” of its signature Bike and Tread, and is the son of a fitness instructor.

Peloton Executives noted during today’s earnings call that the company is entering the holiday season with “cautious optimism.” The brand recently partnered with Costco as part of its third-party relationship promotion and with Truemed ​​to offer its signature connected fitness equipment as HSA/FSA eligible purchases.
