Athletes can use a beta version of the TrainingPeaks virtual indoor training platform for free until March 2025
TrainingPeaks, an app designed for endurance coaches and athletes, has acquired virtual cycling platform IndieVelo and is now TrainingPeaks Virtual.
This follows TrainingPeaks’ recent launch of Strength Workout Builder, which provides coaches with insights into how athletes are performing during strength training.
The beta version of the new platform is now free for new and existing TrainingPeaks athlete accounts and includes a custom physics engine designed to improve power accuracy and provide a more realistic riding experience. The TrainingPeaks platform enables users to discover training plans, schedules and structured workouts that can be easily synced, as well as automatically uploaded ride data.
After March 2025, TrainingPeaks Virtual will be integrated into TrainingPeaks Premium. According to the brand, future plans include seamless synchronization of TrainingPeaks zones, FTP, workout compliance and other experiences.
“We want to ensure coaches have a seamless onboarding experience for athletes,” said TrainingPeaks President Lee Gerakos. “There’s a lot of friction today that creates obstacles and challenges for our coaches, and this acquisition helps make that easier for athletes. Enter this world.”
With the acquisition of IndieVelo, TrainingPeaks coaches will be able to expand their community reach through virtually hosted group rides, events and races, while giving them the ability to create custom avatars, bikes and team gear.
IndieVelo founder Dr. George Gilbert noted that both platforms share the same core values and are committed to promoting real achievement.
“This acquisition brings the investment and expertise needed to take it to the next level – creating a fully integrated, seamless indoor and outdoor training and competition platform,” said Dr. Gilbert.
